Exploring the Spiritual Haven and Historical Wonders of Chitrakoot

 

PILGRIM
Means the ‘Hill of many wonders’. Chitrakoot falls in the northern Vindhya range of mountains spread over the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Chitrakoot district in Uttar Pradesh was created on 4 September 1998. Chitrakoot Parvat Mala includes Kamad Giri, Hanumaan Dhara, Janki Kund, Lakshman pahari, and Devangana famous Religious mountains.Lord Rama spend a major part of his exile here. According to the epic Ramayana, Chitrakoot is the place where Bharat, brother of Lord Rama came to visit him and asked him to return to Ayodhya and rule the kingdom. It is believed that the supreme Gods of Hinduism, (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) took incarnations here. The place is dotted with many temples and several religious sites. At Chitrakoot, everything relates to Lord Rama. One can also explore the amalgamation of culture and history on this land. Chitrakoot is a spiritual retreat, thronged almost throughout the year by travelers, who have a penchant for the unknown and unexplored. Chitrakoot is a perfect blend of divinity, serenity, and natural beauty.




Gupt Godavari

Gupt Godavari Caves hold an exceptional level of prominence among Hinduism. There are a number of myths pertaining to the caves, the major one among them is that Lord Rama and Lord Lakshman held court in this cave during their exile.

The cave houses intricately carved a sculpture of Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva

at its entrance. This spot is frequented by pilgrims due to their religious significance. The source of the water inside the caves remains unfathomable, making it an interesting site for tourists too.

Sati Anusuya Temple

    To feel visit in spirituality and serenity together in Chitrakoot. It is believed that it was Anusuya’s prayers and devotion that led to the creation of Mandakini River which brought an end to the famine in the town.

The temple is dedicated to her. It is located in an ashram where it is beloved, Sati Anusuya resided with her husband and sons. Located on the bank of Mandakini River, the temple, owing to its scenic location, also serves as a great weekend getaway and ropes in a large number of tourists and devotees every day.




Hanuman Dhara

       Hanuman Dhara and Sita Rasoi are best places in Chitrakoot. No one should miss on taking few extra steps to reach till Sita Rasoi.This is top of the hill and have an amazing view. Try Chai Rabri on the top, you will sure love it A place near to Chitrakot. Lord Hanuman Statue is at top of Hill with approx 610 stairs. The place is very good for prayer of Lord Hanuman.A spring (DHARA) runs through temple and so called Hanuman Dhara.


Bharat Koop

          Bharat Koop To attain Salvation, the pilgrimage to Chitrakoot is incomplete without a visit to this hallowed place of worship. It is said that , to crown Lord Rama as the king of Ayodhya, his brother Bharat, collected the waters of all sacred rivers to anoint him with. On the advice of Sage Atri, the waters were later poured into a deep well popularly known as Bharat Koop. A temple dedicated to Lord Rama is also found here.


Ganeshbagh

Kamtanath

            Kamadgiri is the main holy place of Chitrakoot Dham . The Sanskrit word ‘Kamadgiri’ means the mountain which fulfills all the wishes and desires. The place is believed to have been the abode of Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman during their exile. Lord Kamtanath, another of His names, is the Ishta Deva principal deity not only of Kamadgiri Parvat but of the whole of Chitrakoot. The religious-minded believe that all the holy places (i.e. teerthas) are in the Parikrama or its pilgrimage-path. The pilgrimage path around this hill is about 5 Km long. There are a large number of temples in the Parikrama Path. Except during the summers, the place remains green throughout the year and appears like a bow seen from any place in Chitrakoot.


Dharkundi

Dharkundi is located about fifty kilometers celestial space between forests in Chitrakoot.
